It has been brought to our notice that fraudulent e-mails
from persons/entities claiming to be from Soneri Bank have been received by some
of our customers. Such e-mails fall under the ambit of phishing (pronounced as fishing).
Phishing means creating a replica of an existing
webpage to deceive customers into submitting personal or confidential information.
Phishing is a term coined by hackers who imitate legitimate companies in emails
to entice people to share static password or credit card numbers. Other names for
phishing are brand spoofing, carding, fake websites, and email scams.
In some cases, these e-mails ask you to visit a website
where you will be asked to update your personal details/information, including your
full TPINs/FPINs, mother’s median name, your address, your passwords, security questions,
CNIC (NADRA National ID Card details), credit card details, and your bank account
numbers. Please beware that the email/website or a link, however, is bogus and set
up only to steal your sensitive information. This act of sending these kinds of
false e-mails to a user will be misused for identity theft and fraud purposes.
Please keep the following points in mind to avoid being
